The London (UK) based alternative rock band Jingo create short but stunning symphonies of power.
The band centres around the successful Pratt Institute graduate Katie Buckett — on keys and main vocal, with Jack Buckett (on guitar) and Joseph Reeves (on drums.)
We have been listening to Ghost in the Machine, the second single to be taken from the EP:
This starts in chapel-like tranquillity when a cappella voices rise spectrally from the dust.
Then a drum regularly pounds, as it announces a slight fluster. Crushed guitar strings waft towards you in waves as stiff as folds of meringue.
The melody is a delight and the warm clay-voice of Katie is filled with yeasted emotion. The lyrics, too, are inspired.
This piece is rhythmically sensual.
And without fear, it brings the concept of mind-body dualism into your ears …
It’s a song filled with feeling, contemplation and love… You can move your mind, by Jingo. Yes, we know you can do it!
